Chanterêves
|
| Translucent, emotive wines to fall in
love with |

Guillaume Bott & Tomoko Kuriyama

Tomoko Kuriyama of
the Savigny-based Chanterêves — a new crush of
mine… Her wines are both expressive and ethereal.
— Alice Feiring
…they have already established themselves as an
exciting presence on the Côte d'Or.
— William Kelley
This is clearly a producer to watch.
— Jancis Robinson, MW

In a very short span of time, Chanterêves has risen
rapidly from underdog to darling status. This
beautiful partnership and their eloquent wines have
captured the attention of oenophiles seeking that
ethereal Burgundy experience. Today, it’s clear that
this is a producer that’s firmly on the radar of any
serious Burgundy lover.
|
Tomoko Kuriyama is originally from Japan but was
trained as an oenologist at the famous wine university in
Geisenheim, Germany. She then worked as estate manager at
a notable Rheingau estate, Weingut Friedrich Altenkirch,
making wines from varietals such as Riesling, Pinot Noir,
Pinot Gris, Gewürtztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc, before
moving to Burgundy to further her ambitions.
Her husband Guillaume Bott started his career as
an assistant to Gerard Boudot of Domaine Etienne Sauzet in
Puligny-Montrachet. He still works as the cellar master of
the famous Domaine Simon Bize in Savigny-les-Beaune to
this day.
This charming couple has a shared vision. They don’t seek
to make big extractive wines, preferring instead to craft
refined, aromatic, energetic wines that gently build on
the palate and tantalise the senses. Their wines are more
about finesse and subtlety than immediate impact. They
have a lovely vitality and sense of harmony; saline whites
and fresh, pure-fruited reds.
 |
(the wines)
have a delightful, I am tempted to suggest Japanese,
delicacy about them.
— Jancis Robinson, MW
The wines are extremely pure, with an
almost naked impression of the fruit. They are
focused, transparent and crystal clear palate wise.
They seem completely free from vinification makeup…
— Steen Öhman
Its wines, whites and reds, are gorgeously
transparent, fresh and unadorned.
— Eric Asimov, The New York Times

Chanterêves burst onto the scene with great success in
their debut vintage, with Jancis Robinson declaring their
humble Bourgogne Pinot Noir
her wine of the week during the primeur week back
then. Since then, things have only gone from strength to
strength.
Tomoko and Guillaume undertake an artisanal approach with
minimal intervention to create wines that reflect their
origins, imbued with a personal spirit of elegance. All
Chanterêves wines are naturally fermented with indigenous
yeasts, with the grape clusters all intact (no destemming)
and no oenological products employed other than a smidgen
of sulphur. New oak is used sparingly.
There’s a special fascination among epicureans for all
things Japanese and, as wine lovers, we tend to imagine a
special connection between the elegant wines of Burgundy
and the Japanese ethos of detailed minimalism. At
Chanterêves, the intersection of the two cultures has
yielded a combination that distills the best qualities of
each. Fans adore them and, if you observe what they say,
they almost always gush with affection for these wines.
Tomoko and Guillaume make Burgundy wines with an
unassuming sincerity that is palpable in each bottle, and
this is something that resonates deeply with their
admirers.

We’re thrilled to present to you today the splendid
vintage 2019 from CHANTERÊVES.
While yields were significantly lower compared to
2018, Tomoko and Guillaume have worked tirelessly to
bolster their portfolio, and we’re excited to see a
number of new appellations making their debut.
Unsurprisingly, the entire collection is again a
stunning success; every one of these drops will make
Burgundy lovers giddy with delight.

Bourgogne
Chardonnay 2019
|
S$ 54 / 750 ml for
3-bottles or more
S$ 57 / 750 ml
|
“Tangy and surprisingly
acid-driven given its provenance in Maranges
and the Beaujolais, the 2019 Bourgogne Blanc
is medium-bodied, bright and mineral,
evocative of pear, orange oil and nutmeg.
It's more elegant and precise than its 2018
counterpart.” William Kelley

Bourgogne
Aligoté “Les Chagniots” 2019
|
S$ 68 / 750 ml
|
| “Produced from a parcel located
between Ladoix and Corgoloin, planted to
90-year-old Aligoté Doré vines. After a
light crushing and fermentation in old
casks, the wine ages 17 months, producing a
wine that is lovely, lemony and ripe. There
is a slightly herbal edge and a strong
saline note on the end. The acidity is crisp
and refreshing, but never tart, and for a
Bourgogne Aligoté the wine lingers
surprisingly on the palate.” 92 points, Decanter

Maranges “Vignes Blanches” 2019
|
S$ 73 / 750 ml
|
Technical Sheet with tasting notes
VT2019.pages
Chardonnay from
Dezize-les-Maranges “Vignes
Blanches”. Relatively deep soil
laden with limestone gravels.
Lightly sloped, therefore has good
drainage. Lutte raisonée farming.
About 1,200 bottles produced.
|
[Winemaker’s
notes:] “Richness and
freshness coincide with good balance in this
wine. Mineral backbone and density. Lively
with persisting finish. Performing well
above its humble appellation.”

Pernand-Vergelesses “La Morand” 2019
|
S$ 84 / 750 ml
|
| “Aromas of crisp orchard fruit,
white flowers and beeswax introduce the 2019
Pernand-Vergelesses La Morand, a medium to
full-bodied, satiny and incisive wine that's
charming and precise. This has turned out
very nicely.” William Kelley

Savigny-les-Beaune “Le Village” 2019
|
S$ 86 / 750 ml
|
|
|
|
|
|
Saint-Romain “La Perrière” 2019
|
S$ 89 / 750 ml
|
Considered to be the
best village terroir of Saint-Romain
Blanc. Chardonnay from Combe Bazin
which lies at an altitude of about
230 metres. Very stony with a high
proportion of active limestone. 2
barrels made.
|
[Winemaker’s
notes:] “Floral with a
note of tropical fruits. Generous yet
delicate and vibrant. It is an energetic and
onctuous Saint Romain.” |
|
|
|
|
Auxey-Duresses
“Les Hautés” 2019
|
S$ 96 / 750 ml
|
“This comes from a north-facing
parcel on the border with Meursault. The
grapes are crushed by foot-treading and
slowly pressed before a cask fermentation
and ageing with the lees, without racking,
which brings a slightly reductive matchstick
element to the ripe apple and citrus fruit
on the nose. This gives the impression of a
bit of smoke, although this comes from the
reduction, not from oak maturation, as there
is no new wood used here. Lovely.” 92
points, Decanter

Chassagne-Montrachet
1er Cru “Les Morgeots” 2019
|
S$ 144 / 750 ml
|
“The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet
1er Cru Morgeot mingles notes of pear and
beeswax with hints of warm spices and
nutmeg, followed by a medium to full-bodied,
satiny and precise palate that's notably
fine-boned and mineral in this inherently
rich vintage, no doubt reflecting both the
decision-making of the producer and the
wine's origin in lieu-dit Les Chaumes.” WA

Bourgogne
Pinot Noir 2019
|
S$ 58 / 750 ml for
3-bottles or more
S$ 62 / 750 ml
|
“Unfurling in the glass with aromas of ripe cherries,
plums and raspberries that are
complemented by sweet soil tones, the 2018
Bourgogne Rouge is medium to full-bodied,
its fleshy core of fruit structured around a
chassis of rich, powdery tannin that lends
the wine quite a muscular profile this year.
This is a blend of roughly equal parts fruit
from the granitic soils of Paris l'Hôpital,
in the Hautes-Côtes near Maranges, and
Puligny-Montrachet.” WA 89

|
|
Bourgogne
Hautes-Côtes de Beaune 2019
|
S$ 66 / 750 ml for
3-bottles or more
S$ 69 / 750 ml
|
Pinot Noir from Paris
l’Hôpital, planted on dark sandy
granite. Old vines of 45 years of
age and older. Lutte raisonée
farming. As the sandy steep slopes
are prone to erosion, the middle of
the rows are never tilled.
|
[Winemaker’s
notes:] “Floral
with bouquets of dark red fruits. Very fine
tannins with racy acidity. Complex and
structured. Dense yet lifted. Certainly the
best Hautes-Côtes de Beaune we have made in
10 years. Performs well above its humble
appellation.” |
|
|
|
|
Pernand-Vergelesses
“Les Boutières” 2019
|
S$ 79 / 750 ml for
3-bottles or more
S$ 83 / 750 ml
|
From a plot that
was planted in the 1990s.
Lutte raisonnée farming.
|
[Winemaker’s
notes:] “Aromas
of dark fruit and spiciness that evokes
licorice. Medium-bodied with silky tannins.
Very pleasurable and accessible already.” |
|
|
|
|
Pommard
2019
|
S$ 106 / 750 ml
|
| “From a high-altitude lieu-dit,
the 2019 Pommard mingles aromas of plum and
bergamot with hints of rose petal and peony.
Medium-bodied, bright and lively, it's a
detailed, fine-boned wine that defies
stereotypes of this commune.” William Kelley
|
|
|
|
|
Nuits-Saint-Georges “Les Tuyaux” 2019
|
S$ 110 / 750 ml
|
Lutte raisonnée
farming. The parcel is situated
adjacent to “Aux Herbues”, which
is at the frontier of
Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne
Romanée.
|
[Winemaker’s
notes:] “Charming
association of floral aromas with mulberry
fruit. Spiciness that evokes black pepper.
Tannins are smooth but present. Light-footed
and elegant yet there is depth.” |
|
|

|
Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru “Les Paulands” 2019
|
S$ 127 / 750 ml
|
| “Another new cuvée debuts with
the 2019 Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Paulands, a
lovely wine that wafts from the glass with
notes of rose petals, blood orange, incense
and plums. Medium-bodied, lively and
precise, it's fine-boned and perfumed.” WA

|
|
Beaune 1er Cru “Les Bressandes” 2019
|
S$ 127 / 750 ml
|
| “The 2019 Beaune Bressandes 1er
Cru offers red cherries and raspberry fruit
laced with cracked black pepper and clove on
the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with
crunchy red berry fruit, spicy and peppery
with an almost Côte-Rôtie–like finish due to
a faint garrigue tincture, possibly through
reduction, though it is still definitely
Pinot Noir. This marks a fine debut.” NM

Nuits-Saint-Georges
1er Cru “Les Damodes” 2019
|
S$ 157 / 750 ml
|
“The 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges
1er Cru Les Damodes opens in the glass with
notes of black raspberries, sweet spices,
petals and loamy soil. Medium-bodied, bright
and lively, with a concentrated core of
fruit, refined tannins and a long, perfumed
finish. I can't wait to see how it develops
with a little bottle age.” WA 93+
