A perfect
producer of absolute world class right through the
entire range. It is a loving pleasure to follow
David’s journey to the top.
— Richard Juhlin (*****,
5-star)
David Léclapart crafts Champagnes of personality and
distinction from his tiny cellar in Trépail.
— Antonio Galloni
. . Léclapart’s wines also possess an
uncommon complexity and vitality, and at their best,
they number among the finest wines of the Montagne
de Reims.

In the realm of grower Champagne, few names
command as much awe and ardour as David Léclapart. There is
nothing as emblematic of the movement’s cutting
edge as the champagnes made by Léclapart. They are
indisputably in a class of their own.
|
Léclapart’s ardent followers seek out his champagnes because
they provide a unique emotional experience. We habitually
refer to them as ‘spiritual’ champagnes, unearthly juice
with distinctive personalities and unfathomable levels of
energy.
These sleek bone-dry champagnes find their origin in David
Léclapart’s biodynamic vineyards in Trépail, a prized
premier cru village in the Montagne de Reims where
Chardonnay vines dominate. His vineyard surface area covers
only 3 hectares but is spread across 22 different parcels.
David is first and foremost a farmer — one who is a
passionate practitioner and a vocal advocate of biodynamics.
Every year, he works relentlessly to express the true voice
of his vineyards using the vintage as a lens.
The obsessive care he puts in his vineyards extends to the
cellar where everything is natural and nothing is added
other than a homeopathic amount of sulphur prior to
bottling. All primary fermentations are by natural yeasts
and all see full malolactic conversion. His best sites are
fermented in small old wood barrels which thus lend his
wines a powerfully vinous character.

Léclapart’s champagnes demand the taster to fully engage and
inquire. They expect you to be ready to discard whatever
notion you already have about fine wines in order to
experience their essence. Earnest tasters very quickly
realise that these champagnes are not just about flavours.
There is texture, energy, inner mouth perfume and a unique
spiritual presence. They are impossibly alive. They are ever
changing in the glass. Their intrigue lures you to keep
sipping. The sensation is indescribable yet palpable.
As more wine lovers seek out terroir, clarity and precision
in their champagnes, David Léclapart’s creations have become
the archetype of a new aesthetic that redefines how people
view Champagne. What was once considered avant-garde has
inspired a multitude of young vignerons who emulate him in
placing the primacy of nature and terroir above man-made
tradition, commercial ambition and whims of fashion.
There is truth in every bottle of Léclapart. They represent
a perfect confluence of Nature’s and Man’s genius. We
cherish every opportunity we are given to taste Léclapart’s
champagnes, and we are grateful to have become friends with
the man himself — one of the nicest and humblest vignerons
we know.

David Léclapart
is a self-taught biodynamic artist who, with loving
management, creates masterpieces in harmony with
nature. His scratchy-dry and fresh wine has a bite
and sting like few others while crystal clear,
clean, and silky soft.
— Richard
Juhlin, “100 Champagnes you
should try before you die”
David is certainly a believer in the biodynamic
creed, but more importantly he is an excellent
winemaker with a “feeling” for fine wine that raises
his craft to a higher level.
— Michael Edwards, “The
Finest Wines of Champagne”

and just plain mind-boggling in their transformative
capacity. And today, we are thrilled to announce

Every one of these champagnes is singular and inimitable:

saline yet succulent, and constantly accelerating. They are
designed to move you. When tasting these ethereal
champagnes, Léclapart’s ethos, which appears on his back
labels — Purity, Energy, Pleasure, Ecology
— becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I’ve never had a
champagne like it—the focus and purity is awesome.
— Wine Rant
These are highly individual Champagnes,
marked by a striking purity and elegance, as well as
a racy tension and savoury complexity derived from
Trépail’s chalky soils.
— Decanter
These are rich, vinous
Champagnes that benefit from considerable aeration
and enough time to follow their gradual evolution in
the glass.
— Antonio Galloni

100% Chardonnay from
six different parcels in Trépail.
Vinified in enameled tanks. Zero

“Such lifted aromatics: chalk-dusted lemon
peel, spiced pear and white flowers. Ripe
and fruit-forward but bracing in its
minerality. This vinous bubbly is
crystalline, vivacious and already quite
delicious. One of the most expressive young
L’Amateur ever tasted, and a compelling
introduction to the Léclapart school of
Champagne.” AC
“This champagne smells amazing, like a
clean Gravensteiner. Incredibly beautiful
fresh and highly aromatic fragrance
reminiscent of the chilly autumn and clean,
clear air. The dryness is striking, but
still not disturbing . .” Richard
Juhlin
“The Amateur has real personality, a core of
racy flavours, and the ‘tension’ that
classic Chardonnay Champagnes should have
but often do not when overproduced.” Michael
Edwards

100% Chardonnay. From
30- to 50-year-old vines from the
vineyards of Le Haut de la Gloie des
Cochons and Entre les Deux Hauts
Chemins in the southeast of Trépail.
50% vinified in old Domaine Leflaive
barrels. Zero dosage.

“Taking the energy level a step up, it is
understated yet noticeably deeper than
L’Amateur, holding much in its reserve.
Incisive, bracing and gently floral in its
youth, with time one will find flavours of
almond and white peaches. The whack of
salinity which marks every one of
Léclapart’s wines is impossible to miss in
this Champagne’s highly revved up finish.” AC
“Brilliant vinification and Selosse
influence. A wonderfully silky caress that
makes the toughest critic smile in a
friendly manner. A many-faceted bouquet with
a muffled element of the usual organic dwarf
banana tone in the background. Before me are
ranged lilac, lime blossom, orange, hawthorn
and William pear. A wine that makes one see
inner visions of early summer landscapes in
the middle of winter.” Richard Juhlin
“. . like a razor blade of minerals and it
enters with so much soil energy and purity
that you are completely blown away. It’s
like a crystallized bath of seashells, baby
banana and green apples.” Thomas
Iversen

L’Astre Blanc de Noirs
Premier Cru Pas Dosé 2015
|
S$
250 / 750 ml |
100% Pinot Noir from
40- to 50-year-old vines in Le Champ
Janvrai and La Fleuranne vineyards
in the south of Trépail. Vinified in
old barrels. Zero dosage.
|
“Toasty, bready nose, very pinot noir.
Marked by orange citrusity, white peach and
bergamot. Broad and ample but still
remarkably pure and crystalline. Plenty of
stuffing here. This vintage is about
gorgeous succulent fruit, and the verve of
the wine is provided by an oyster-shell like
minerality. Builds and mounts in the mouth
with great energy and volume, and finishes
with a beguiling salinity. Still quite
compact currently; cellaring will see it
unfurl into further opulence one day.” AC
[vintage
2014:] “Crushed roses
and oyster shell, with gently spicy
strawberries and wild cherries. The palate
has a supple and fleshy texture that winds
out to a powerful, dry and intense,
minerally focus on the finish.” James
Suckling (JS) 95

100% Chardonnay from
60+ years old single-vineyard of La
Pierre St-Martin. Fully vinified in
old Domaine Leflaive barrels. Zero
dosage.
|
“Opulence and grandeur meet exotic fruits,
almond and hyacinth in its multidimensional
and arresting aromatics. Like a Grand Cru
white Burgundy, L’Apôtre asserts itself with
expansive power and palate-massaging
pressure in the mouth which leads to a
reverberating high-pitched rumble of a race
car in its explosive umami-laden finish.
Experiencing the insane length of this
accelerative champagne, as it pulls one’s
saturated palate into mineral heaven long
after the juice has slid down the throat,
needs to be on every discerning
connoisseur’s bucket list.” AC
“The fullest and most thunder-roaring is
L’Apôtre, produced from the oldest vines . .
The world of wine is going to do battle over
this completely unique champagne . .” Richard
Juhlin
“. . one hell of an insane electric
Champagne, setting the bar for energy higher
than I have ever seen before...tons of ripe
citrus tonality, soil intensity and nerve
wrecking acidity still cuts all the way
through the wine. Hunt it like demons my
fellow friends.” Thomas Iversen
